Laki mera

Looking across the Glasgow skyline from their rooftop studio Laki Mera consider their next move. Their base is a former factory and is probably, the perfect creative space for this group of musicians to shape their impressionistic soundscapes in.

In this world they stretch conventional song structures into epic cinematic feature length soundtracks; lush, classical, percussive, intensely melodic and emotional.

Computers along with battered old synths and acoustic instruments are some of their chosen tools...a cello poised expectantly on its stand, an old school music room piano, assorted electronic exotica and a selection of guitars waiting for the call. And then there's Laura's voice…

Laki Mera fell to earth in Glasgow, arriving from outposts around Europe in 2004.
As Keith Bruce Arts Editor of the Glasgow Herald noted;
”There is a real depth of musical expertise in Glasgow's Laki Mera, a combination of talents
that is built around gorgeous vocals and considerable songwriting skill.”They are indeed the
sum of quite unique parts. Multi instrumentalist Andrea Gobbi is from Rome, where he grew
up playing in various punk and reggae outfits before being taken by the lure of electronica.
Singer Laura Donnelly is a former member of the car crash that never happened - Rough Trade
recording artists - God's Boyfriend. Keyboard duties are shared with Kier Long both he and cellist
Trevor Helliwell both were classically trained. Percussion is supplied by Tim Harbinson who learned
his trade playing with the likes of Duke Special in the fertile Belfast music scene.

Quotes:

“Single's wonderful... “ Jim Gellatly, Xfm

“A blend of haunting vocals over some cool percussion and interesting soundscapes.”
Olaf Furniss, The Scotsman

"Laki Mera make music like soundscapes for sci-fi films. Stunning vocals over beats that refuse to
be pinned down, „How Dare You is an angry tune pierced in the heart by an icicle. B-side
'I'm Talking', has crystal-clear descending synths that reminds me of Ryuichi Sakamoto at his
ambient best.”
Rick Fulton, Daily Record

“...another great Glasgow band” Vic Galloway, Radio Scotland
